Dear men with no sense of fashion, rejoice! Your days of wearing the same clothes that you’ve had in your closet since high school is finally over. And let me make myself perfectly clear–you may not like throwing those out, but you’ll do it anyway to make your partner happy. Not only will you get new clothes, but they’ll also be uber stylish to show how much you’ve actually been listening!
If you happen to be single, it’s high time to change your style, and whether you’re into same-sex dating, hetero dating, HIV dating, or travel dating, the same rules apply when it comes to smoldering good looks for men. Side note–if you already know what you’re doing in the fashion department kudos to you, but it still wouldn’t hurt to check out our tips on how to get and keep a respectable wardrobe.
Good Jeans are Half the Trouble
You may think they’re uncomfortable and would rather lounge around in your sweats, but trust me, a good pair of jeans is the single sexiest piece of clothing a man can own. OK, a fantastic suit is right up there on the list of the sexiest items in a man’s closet, but unless you’re a sharky executive, you wouldn’t wear a suit on a daily basis anyway. Sticking with Levi’s is a great option for casual, and if you’re like me and love to splurge on jeans, there is a whole array of awesome designer pieces that will set you back a couple of hundred bucks, but they will turn more than a few heads in return.
Street Style Rocks
Get it through that pretty little head of yours–street style rocks! Obviously, you wouldn’t wear it to dinner or work, but you could sport it on most other occasions. It’s sexy because it’s effortless, it says you’re a laid-back, down-to-earth kind of guy who’s relatable and approachable, and people just go crazy for men like that. Forget about denim-on-denim, but pretty much anything else works! Pair your sneakers with a casual fall coat or your hoodie with a denim jacket, provided you’ve got casual pants for bottoms. Get a few funky T-shirts that don’t stand out too much so you can get versatility out of them, and you’re all set to start!
Careful with Accessories
Not every man can pull of accessories. For women, accessorizing is like breathing–women just do it without thinking about it, investing no effort in it, and it works like a charm. When it comes to men, wearing accessories might seem like you’re trying too hard to follow fashion trends, and remember, the best looks are those that seem like you’ve put 5 minutes into them. Although most great fashion lines have awesome men’s accessories, actually seeing those on a man might be off-putting if done wrong.
Accessorizing right is like getting a free dessert at a restaurant–if it’s good it’s like a cherry on top. If it isn’t, it can spoil the whole meal. Rule of thumb for most men? Stick to cool winter hats, killer shades, a nice watch, and an occasional scarf, but stay away from necklaces, bracelets, and rings, and you’ll be on the safe side. The beard thing is a nice touch, by the way.
