Jil Sander Resort 2024: Redefining the Suit

The Fashionisto / Published July 17, 2023

The Jil Sander resort 2024 men’s collection, the brainchild of creative directors Luke and Lucie Meier, applauds the dynamic harmony birthed from the union of contrasting elements in a cultural and structural sense.

The collection breathes new life into the traditional suit, fusing jackets and shirt jackets with long trousers and shorts. This fusion sculpts an updated silhouette that captures the freshness of spring. A blend of high-collared tops, T-shirts, knits, and mesh shirts supplant the classic shirts, creating a mesmerizing medley of textures and touch.

Accessories are pivotal to this collection, including flattened jewelry, foulards, and necklaces that drape from the body to the garment in a ballet of graceful elegance. These pieces inject an extra layer of sophistication, enhancing each ensemble’s individuality.

The half-breasted jackets stand out, characterized by their imposing rectangular design, spacious sleeves, and an emphasis on a relaxed fit. The soft, long trousers and shorts, sharply tailored and sporting crisp creases, further emphasize this powerful statement.

Overcoats boast a spectrum of shapes and precise details. Pieces include tonal ivory jacquard tailored coats with a catamount motif, abbreviated raincoats marked by oversized pockets and metallic hardware, and grey A-shaped trenches.

The collection celebrates the increasing overlap of menswear and womenswear, diving into a world of matte and glossy textures. Materials span the luxury of cashmere, Japanese and Italian wools, smooth and embossed leather, and the comfort of premium cotton.

The collection’s knitwear showcases an impressive selection of embossing, crochet inserts, and jacquards. Highlighted graphics include the black and white sweater with a “Magic Orchestra” green jacquard and the “Luscious Kiss” print.

The color scheme explores contrasts with blocks of lilac, metallic grey, white, butter, charged pink, pale yellow, sun yellow, and pink. A notable garment is a V-neck sweater in ribbed cashmere in shades of gold, black, chocolate, and forest green.

The collection beautifully merges athleticism and elegance, demonstrated by vulcanized boots and sneakers, each with oversized rubber soles. The accessories are sandwich bags, envelope folios, plush, vibrant tote bags, handbags, and multicolored box bags.

Models Takfarines Bengana, Dara Gueye, and So Jin Ho bring the Jil Sander resort 2024 collection to life in the lookbook, captured by the discerning eye of Chris Rhodes. This collection is a nuanced poem that balances tradition with innovation, form with function, and femininity with masculinity. In short, it’s a beacon of what the future of fashion holds—a future that is already upon us.
