Men don’t wear pink or do they? The line between men and women in fashion today is often blurred. In Ethosens’ fall 2009 collection, appropriately titled “Gentleman?”, the existence of this line is questioned. Yui Hashimoto, designer of Ethosens, has always had “doubts toward ‘Manliness…’” In his new collection, he dares you to play with this gender bend with its electrifying pink printed cardigans and skinny silhouettes. Furthermore, the pairing of shorts over pants gives off the illusion of one boldly wearing printed tights. However, the sight of pink already has many men running.

For those less daring, Hashimoto offers a modern twist to classic pieces by playing with the proportion and tailoring, and giving the collection a youthful zest. Stand out pieces include oversized blazers, elongated jackets, cleverly printed shirts and the draped cardigan-shirt. And of course, the hot pink is hard to miss. Only in its 5th season, Ethosens continues to push the boundaries of menswear with its playfulness and sense of humor. Let’s be real, who doesn’t need a shirt with a fork, knife or delicate hand on it? It’s a necessity. Still evaluating the masculinity of this collection? Maybe it’s your own masculinity that needs to be evaluated.
