Tiki, Batik, Ikat, and other tribal inspired prints are normally associated with resort wear, usually seen at a poolside cabana on a geriatric from Boca Raton. Scott Schuman, aka The Sartorialist, captured the above subject in an amazing pair of tribal printed shorts. The title of his post was “Steal her Style”. I couldn’t agree more! I worship those shorts, and given the chance, I would definitely get my hands on them. Pairing an ethnic print with classic pieces, like her perfectly crumpled chambray shirt, gives a street-friendly vibe to a style normally seen only when vacationing.
A fun historical reference point for interpreting this trend is during the Tiki craze of the late 50′ and early 60’s, marked by Hawaii becoming a state. Juxtaposing wardrobe staples from the late 50’s with the earthiness of global prints provides and interesting way to incorporate this look into your street style.
