The Wall Street Journal reports on new policies in play at Abercrombie & Fitch. Long known for its sexualized advertising and shirtless store models, the retailer is adjusting to changing times. Instead of hiring Models, the company will now hire Brand Representatives to assist customers. Abercrombie & Fitch will also ditch its previous hiring practices that saw the retailer placing an importance on “body type or physical attractiveness.” In addition to shirtless models retiring from the stores, the retailer officially adds, “By the end of July, there will no longer be sexualized marketing used in marketing materials including, in-store photos, gift cards, and shopping bags.” However, on the subject of its fragrance advertising, Abercrombie & Fitch explains, “Consistent with the fragrance industry, the shirtless model image will continue on A&F’s Fierce cologne.”
