Beach Formal–Alder New York founders David J. Krause and Nina Zilka imagine a laid-back season for their spring/summer 2014 collection. Designing clothes for the “man who is innately stylish without trying too hard,” Krause explains that they were “excited by the idea of collegiate athleticism and the look and feel of activewear in a preppy setting.” Showcasing the playful collection in a new lookbook shot by photographer Colby Blount, Alder New York enlists model Logan Jackson. Hitting the locker room, bright colors and sharp lines push athletic aspirations into a contemporary mode that exudes the ease of summer days at the beach. Here, plaid board shorts, windbreakers and bucket hats with different finishes contribute to a young attitude. From boxing-inspired cuts on shorts to collegiate-like prints on everything, ranging from shirts to pants, Alder New York scores a smart feat.
