Easing into his second season at Balenciaga, designer Demna Gvasalia expands the fashion house’s brand beyond the confines of tailoring. Approaching his fall-winter 2017 collection for the label, Gvasalia borrows from his quirky signatures from Vetemenets.
The designer looks to the world around him for inspiration. In this case, his starting reference was the corporate culture of Balenciaga’s parent company–Kering. This prompted an offering of sharp tailored suits and overcoats.
Weaving sportswear into the narrative with streetwear leanings, Gvasalia took a cue from the American campaign trail and channeled Bernie Sanders with reworked logos. Disrupting a strict shirt and tie uniform, the Balenciaga lineup concluded with boxy short jackets, puffer vests, elongated shirts, oversized scarves, and sporty sweatshirts.
