Relaxed silhouettes and a chic use of volume come together for Berthold’s spring-summer 2017 collection. Designer Raimund Berthold began the season by looking to an archival French army cavalry coat for inspiration. Dissecting the piece in an interesting fashion, Berthold reinterprets the coat’s tailoring as a mode of exploration for controlling volume.

Here, draped shapes dominate the designer’s collection with a series of asymmetrical jackets, longline tops, and wide-legged trousers. Bringing a lightness and finesse to menswear, the brand’s uniform dictates an elegant narrative.

While monochromatic color schemes are present in Berthold’s range with red, black, and grey hues, the collection looks to the world of art for a graphic direction. Inspired by artwork, which features broken or split lines, Berthold juxtaposes natural woven fabrics with technical alternatives to add interest to strong layered looks.
