The freedom of expression that fashion provides forms the ground basis for Christian Lacroix’s fall 2011 collection entitled Migratory Boys. Placing Charlie Westerberg in twenty-three looks, autumn’s story follows the urban nomad as he ventures to the world’s most stylish regions and places of inspiration. Providing for an interesting point of view that reinvents itself as time progresses, varied experiences blend into the patchwork of new beginnings. From the modern sleeping bag and sailor’s coat to the timeless cool of surplus finds, the man of Christian Lacroix finds himself suited for quite the occasion. Whether a scholar, voice of dissent or refined lad on a Parisian evening out, fall’s free spirit creates an eclectic framework for the upcoming season.
Apart from the tan leather jacket, this is exceedingly disappointing. This has nothing to do with the Christian Lacroix brand that I used to love so much: where are the colours? Where is the inventiveness? Where is the imagery and light from the South of France? I am sad to see one of the most exciting and most original brands of the past 25 years become so anodyne.
