M magazine taps actor Christoph Waltz to cover its holiday 2014 issue with a photo shoot lensed by Brian Bowen Smith. Talking about his upcoming role in Tim Burton’s Big Eyes, Waltz discusses acting in general, bringing up a quote from Harrison Ford that reads, “The role of an actor is to serve as a mirror. My job is not to show you that the character and I have something in common. My job is to show you that you and the character–even the one who may seem a little crazy–have something in common.”
Finding Ford’s words insightful, Waltz continues, “I admire Harrison Ford even more for that wonderful and astute and precise insight. When you ask an actor to talk about his character, he’ll always tell you about how close he is to the character. Who cares! That’s not what it’s for!
