Subtle Changes–The fall/winter 2013 season sees Christopher Shannon heading a slightly different direction than previous seasons, developing his signature style across a new range of staples. Stripes and panelling that dominated the previous collections evolved into sophisticated colour-blocking across bomber jackets and jeans, with knitwear, the strongest: sweaters knitted with waffle and cable stitching featured zip necks and witty graphic elements such as pieced in cartoon half-faces. Leather was the standout choice for this season, featured in most of the collection with shirts and trousers in black and cobalt blue or through panelling. Shannon’s signature shirts and sweatshirts were made from lustrous nylons with slightly padded sleeves and zipped sleeve heads. This season also saw the introduction of “gaffer taped jeans” in raw, over-washed and faded denim. A strong and very well-edited collection that feels refined and considered while maintaining the strength of the Christopher Shannon aesthetic. / Words by KENNY HO
