Hip Folklore–A diverse source of inspirations such as 1970s English folklore and gap-year backpackers in South-East Asia fuel led Christopher Shannon’s spring/summer 2013 collection. Multi-coloured blanket fabrics were paneled into slouchy pieces such as loose-fitting shirts and shorts, strategically placed at lower hemlines of sweats or asymmetrically down one side of whole outfits. Short fringing within the blanket panels gave a unique folklore feel. Casual pieces such as jean jackets and sweatshirts in signature horizontal striped patchwork were reworked in black and indigo denim with frayed edges. A collaboration with Cambridge Satchel Company saw the invention of the “Batchel”, a backpack/satchel hybrid: shoulder straps were adorned with fringed leather pieces and black backpacks had contrast green fringed panels. The show finished with exaggerated outfits of layered wide remnant pieces. / Words by Kenny Ho, Fashionisto London Fashion Editor.
