Brioni’s design director, Norbert Stumpfl, draws inspiration for the fashion house’s fall-winter 2022 collection from art. More specifically, Stumpfl takes inspiration from a painting by Jan Brueghel the Elder titled “Allegory of Air.” The work is part of Brueghel’s Allegories of the Elements series, and it testifies to the artist’s skill and his distinct point of view.
“Allegory of Air,” a painting on copper, has vibrant colors and an enamel-like appearance. Still, it also goes beyond the typical personification of the elements by depicting an allegorical landscape rather than a personification of the elements. Brueghel’s work inspired Stumpfl, and his use of color is reflected in the season’s color palette, which includes dark elemental tones and a robust take on blue.
Meanwhile, the “Allegory of Air” inspires a sense of energy and lightness in Brioni’s new collection. Breathable and deconstructed, Brioni menswear combines artisanal accents like hand-painted leather buttons with relaxed tailoring to create a comfortable but elegant look.
Li Von Euler’s art direction is included in the lookbook for Brioni’s fall-winter 2022 collection, photographed by Marco Imperatore and released by the brand. Models Jeenu Mahadevan, Jonas Mason, Luca Gadjus, and Thibaud Charon are dressed by stylist Mattias Karlsson, who works his magic on them.
