Commission Explores Youth Culture

The Fashionisto / Published September 26, 2022

“Nothing is Forever” is the name of the new collection that Commission is debuting for the spring and summer of 2023. The designers, Jin Kay and Dylan Cao, were inspired to create this collection after concluding that nothing is permanent.

The last six months have been a time of enormous upheaval, but Kay and Cao declare that they have found something beautiful and rebellious in this unpredictability. As a direct consequence, Commission’s newest collection investigates the fleeting nature of adolescence and how love and passion are often transient at this time in one’s life.

The spring collection from Commission sees the brand harkening back to its origins as a meeting place for creative partnerships. The fashion brand works with Valeria Herklotz to capture its latest collection modeled by Yan and Mickael. The new designs from Commission shine in a series of photos by the London-based German photographer. These images convey the season’s young carefreeness with inspiring styling by Jason Rider.

In the spring and summer 2023 collection that Commission is releasing, many aspects of today’s young culture combine with the brand’s exploration of archetypes. Commission moves from ageless elements of growing up, such as school and sports uniforms, deconstructing the concept of uniformity, and progressing to more contemporary aspects like rave culture, cyber goth, and Harajuku.

Tension brings together a mishmash of concepts exemplified by pulled straps, twisted seams, and forward forms that expand or contract in size. The collection features various fashion statements, including deconstructed cable-knit sweaters, shirts with exaggerated details, oversized track trousers, and pinstriped shorts.
