Dior Men broke ground in London with its first runway show for the British fashion capital. Kim Jones, artistic director of menswear, unveiled his fall 2022 collection for Dior, framing it as a celebration of endless creativity, of fresh insights. A purveyor of literature and art, Jones celebrates the life of Jack Kerouac, looking to the novelist as the inspiration for the season.
Historians often recognize Kerouac as one of the greatest voices of the Beat Generation, with his published work, On the Road, being well-regarded. Linking Kerouac to fashion, the artist’s legacy and contribution to literature draws a comparison to what designer Christian Dior did for fashion.
For fall, Jones combines the refinement of a Parisian couture Maison with the contemporary, informal comfort of mid-American sportswear. Checked tweed collegiate coats offer a soft counter to Dior’s characteristic tailoring. Fair isle knits feature a woven “CD Diamond” logo. Rewoven, original 1960s foulards silks add authenticity and chic decoration.
In the collection’s most apparent nod to Kerouac, hand-painted and printed illustrations from the author’s first edition book covers adorn silk and leather. On a casual note, vintage washed denim adds a grounded casualness to Dior’s fall 2022 collection while highlighting quintessential American style.
