Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele takes aim at the eighties for his spring-summer 2018 collection. If you are one of Michele’s style disciples, the lineup did not disappoint. After all, the show notes read, “Resist the mantra of speed that violently leads to loosing (sic) oneself. Resist the illusion of something new at any cost.”
A nostalgia for the eighties brings with it Gucci’s modern juxtaposition of youthful quirks and classic menswear. Tear away provocative pieces such as an all-over print “Gucci” suit or a yellow and black Chanel-esque power suit, and you have strong pieces on their own.
Michele’s collection includes heroes such as a suede blouson jacket, sporty shorts, sharp dress shirts, or pleated trousers. If you’re in the market for novelty, an embellished sweater with the image of Disney’s Snow White really stands out.
