The creative directors of Jil Sander, Lucie and Luke Meier describe a fresh start as the inspiration for their resort 2023 collection for men. The husband-and-wife design team elaborated, “The feeling of 1960s California, freedom, fresh starts, a brand new world, which is what we think many of us want right now.”
The Meiers further state, “Stylistically we mixed the geometric pattern cutting of workwear with the nonconformist glamour of Hollywood and the West Coast. We wanted the feeling to be romantic and realistic at the same time, which is typical of that culture and possibly how we need to be today.”
For the new year, Jil Sander’s man finds freedom and the pursuit of new places and endless horizons. This idea manifests in a certain clarity, reflected in long lines, ocean sky gradients, and palm tree prints. Shifts in vision and perspective result in elements like the dismantling of the suit. The suit jacket is retired for tank tops, trench coats, shirt-jackets, and overcoats. Meanwhile, the collection flirts with men’s and women’s clothing, delivering kilts, high-waisted trousers, long skirts, and shorts.
