Kenzo Fall 2025 Explores Tailoring & Preppy Aesthetics

The Fashionisto / Published February 27, 2025

Nigo’s fall-winter 2025 collection for Kenzo transforms the runway into a high-speed voyage between East and West, threading together archival inspiration with a futuristic lens on travel. Staged at the Palais de Chaillot, with the Eiffel Tower as an imposing backdrop, the presentation revisits Kenzo’s Train Show from fall-winter 1998, reimagining its themes through a modern, kinetic wardrobe.

Set to the live cello compositions of Erik Friedlander, “The Kenzo Commute” unfolds as a symphony of cross-cultural influences, where traditional tailoring meets Japanese craftsmanship in motion. As one of the latest collections from Kenzo, this lineup cements Nigo’s ability to bridge heritage and forward-thinking design.

The collection thrives on contrasts, balancing Western preppy aesthetics with the sharpness of Japanese sartorial heritage. Suits serve as a focal point, their silhouettes softened by unexpected textures—fluffy fabrics blur sharp lines, while powdery pastels inject a playful ease into formal wear.

The classic three-piece suit is reinterpreted through kimono-style waistcoats integrated into traditional jacket shapes, reinforcing Nigo’s instinct for fusing heritage with reinvention.

Tailoring in Motion

Yet, this journey is far from rigid. Outerwear takes on an expressive edge—oversized wool coats arrive in electric hues like turquoise and dusty pink, draped over relaxed tailoring that mimics the fluidity of motion.

A standout look pairs a plush yellow cardigan with wide-legged burgundy trousers, proving that Kenzo’s take on preppy dressing is far from conventional. The varsity influence is further illustrated through embroidered baseball caps emblazoned with a bold “K,” adding a touch of collegiate ease to even the most structured looks.

Kenzo Graffiti

Beyond tailoring, Kenzo’s collection embraces pattern and print as a mode of exploration. American artist Futura 2000, a longtime collaborator of Nigo, brings his signature hand style and street-inspired iconography to the lineup.

Workwear-style denim suits and outerwear are splashed with graffiti-style motifs—sketched atomic symbols and floral-inspired graphics that pulse with an urban energy. A particular look, featuring a white denim jacket and matching trousers covered in Futura’s swirling artwork, captures the seamless interplay between classicism and contemporary subversion.

Denim & Kenzo Workwear

Expanding on its exploration of texture and movement, “The Kenzo Commute” also ventures into workwear with a focus on denim. Nigo draws from Japanese and American utility styles, reinterpreting them through a contemporary, tailored lens.

Dark-wash denim jackets and relaxed, wide-leg jeans nod to classic workwear, but they’re softened by pastel satin bombers and delicate floral accents, bringing a sense of contrast that defines the collection.

A standout indigo-dyed ensemble mimics the contours of a kimono, blending tradition with urban practicality.

The Footwear & Accessories

Footwear reflects the collection’s movement-driven ethos. Glossy patent loafers ground the oversized proportions, with pastel or color-contrast details that nod to the playfulness at the heart of Kenzo’s new uniform.

Meanwhile, rugged suede boots peek out from underneath wide-legged silhouettes, strengthening the collection’s travel-inspired sensibility.

Kenzo Fall/Winter 2025 Collection

By pulling elements from Japanese tailoring, vintage Americana, and contemporary streetwear, “The Kenzo Commute” builds a wardrobe in perpetual transition. Whether in the exaggerated tailoring, the unexpected textures, or the hand-drawn graphics, Nigo crafts a collection that thrives on transformation—through time, geography, and style.

In this dynamic collision of influences, Kenzo’s past meets its future, moving at full speed.
