Lacoste Taps Into 80s Nostalgia for Fall ’18 Collection

Approaching its 85th anniversary, Lacoste serves up nostalgia. Creative director Felipe Oliveira Baptista revisited archives from the 1980s and 90s for the brand’s fall-winter 2018 collection. While looking at the golf wear collections, Baptista was particularly inspired by the Golf de Chantaco. Before World War II, René Lacoste and his wife Simone Thion de la Chaume launched a tree development project. The project resulted in sparing locals from mandatory work in Germany and the planting of 50,000 trees. Bringing this idea forward, Lacoste’s man develops his green thumb and communes with nature. Graphics of trees and golfers decorate knitwear and polos. The images represent postcards of an era long past. Meanwhile, rubber boots and casual sneakers accessorize a retro approach to sportswear. Windbreakers, baggy denim, oversized coats, and more contribute to Lacoste’s strong lineup.
