Marni dreams up a sporty style narrative for its spring-summer 2019 collection. The Italian brand imagines a world where old and new sports converge in harmony. Tennis, skating, boxing, and baseball are among the various sports referenced. The juxtaposition of these various fields results in a youthful collection with a retro ease. Relaxed silhouettes overtake t-shirts, drawstring pants, and skater-fit pants. Repurposing pieces, items such as a sleeping bag is reinterpreted as a bomber or a wrestling robe paired with Bermuda shorts. Stripes and checks add a playful nature. Meanwhile, paint-inspired prints reference the work of Betsey Podlach while photo prints from Florian Hetz delight.
