N°21 Redefines Classics with a Bourgeois Twist

The Fashionisto / Published January 15, 2023

N°21’s fall-winter 2023 men’s collection provides an alluring “Bourgeois Twist” to the everyday male wardrobe. This sophisticated lineup refuses to conform to outdated concepts of traditional masculinity and instead offers clean and simple designs that encompass youthfulness and freedom from societal expectations.

This season, N°21 emphasizes constructing a wardrobe that, according to the brand, diverges from the overused streetwear trend. N°21 suggests a smart collection of jackets, pants, shirts, sweaters, and coats that reflect an elegant bourgeois look.

“The middle class, bourgeoisie, I have in mind is the kind typical of Milan, cultured albeit considered a bit rough around the edges in that indomitable, fearless of spirit,” says N°21 creative director Alessandro Dell’Acqua. “It’s a middle class that doesn’t feel comfortable with the rules it knows perfectly well, therefor,e can enjoy breaking and jumbling them up, finding in such a game a capacity for change and a continual urge to evolve.”

Dell’Acqua went into the season with a clear focus—to redefine the classics such as the pinstripe suit, oxford shirt, and wool coat. “I gave the job both of telling a new story and of getting rid of the confusion which in recent years has come from the serial repetition of streetwear styles and practices,” explains the designer. “So I worked out a narrative process where setting the tone is the distinct inclusion in the men’s wardrobe of a women’s classic: the twin sweater set, which now definitively transcends cultural gender boundaries.”

For Dell’Acqua, N°21’s fall-winter 2023 collection is a wardrobe “designed for men who possess that intangible allure, which leads to maturity; men who are already familiar with all the rules for then being able to go beyond them, having fun along the way.”
