The ageless issue of addiction served as the backdrop for Raf Simons’ fall-winter 2018 collection. The Belgian designer turned to the 1981 film Christiane F. as a starting reference. The biographical drama follows the life of Christiane F. growing up in Berlin’s drug scene of the 1970s. Revisiting a tale of caution, Simons paints a skewed picture for fall. Here, oversized coats come in a multitude of colors. Sharing the limelight, Simons’ outerwear is joined by statement dickeys. The faux sweater fronts provide a visual offset to cigarette-thin cargo pants and a myriad of hidden drug-induced messages.
