Y-3 Spring 2024: Redefining Modern Sportswear

The Fashionisto / Published June 24, 2023

Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto are back at it again, pushing the boundaries of sportswear with Y-3’s spring-summer 2024 collection. The range is a stunning exploration of Contra-Natural, a creative space where organic and synthetic elements combine to form something unique and unexpected.

As a nod to the core of the Y-3 brand, the collection marries adidas’ rich heritage of sports innovation with Yamamoto’s forward-thinking aesthetics.

The collection unveils an intriguing color palette that includes the brand’s trademark Y-3 Black, White, and Solid Gray. These are enhanced with new hues—Mesa, Clay Brown, Mint, and Shadow Red. These colors mirror the process of oxidation, a striking homage to the power and beauty of nature.

Y-3’s garments for the season are a remarkable showcase of audacious cuts, refined tailoring, and expressive silhouettes. Divided into drops, the initial offering includes pieces bearing a digital floral graphic, strikingly representing the collection’s theme.

The second selection proposes sophisticated workwear-inspired garments and refreshing takes on the iconic adidas Superstar Tracksuit, now featuring topographical map piping. Y-3’s final drop of the season is a vibrant array of summer-ready pieces with a nod to adidas’ Teamgeist soccer jerseys from the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

On the footwear front, the collection breaks new ground. The first drop introduces fresh styles like the Y-3 STAN SMITH, the Y-3 COUNTRY, and the Y-3 GSG9 LOW. The second drop sees the comeback of the Y-3 GENDO alongside the debut of the Y-3 S-GENDO RUN, a slimmed-down high-top design with a floral graphic outsole.

The Y-3 KYASU is also back in low and high-top variations, unveiling a new slip-on version. The final footwear installment introduces the Y-3 WATER SLIDE, the Y-3 SANDAL, and a fresh take on the Y-3 ITOGO.

The season’s lookbook, shot by the talented Jordan Hemingway and styled by Robbie Spencer, features models Bunny Syxes, Ju Hyeok Lee, La Timpa, and Maty Drazek. Hemingway’s captivating portraits highlight the cutting-edge nature of Yohji Yamamoto’s striking silhouettes, underlining the collection’s bold aesthetic.
