WWD has the inside scoop on the first installment of New York Fashion Week: Men. Despite a secret invitation-only breakfast hosted by the Council of Fashion Designers of America to address the upcoming fashion week in July, WWD uncovered concerns discussed. Designers, press, publicists and trade-show operators minus WWD were in attendance. The meeting culminated in the following being revealed:
Timing is still an issue for New York Fashion Week: Men as it relates to other vendor shows and international editions of fashion week.
International press is already asking to get their travel and accommodations sponsored. Therefore, the CFDA needs another major sponsor.
Official fashion week logos in orange and blue were previewed, which were inspired by New York sports teams.
The CFDA is looking for fashion week ambassadors that are famous celebrities or well-known for their style. This is similar to how London Collections: Men has local celebrity and model David Gandy as its ambassador.
Brands participating at this point include Calvin Klein Collection, Michael Kors, Rag & Bone, Public School, Billy Reid, Todd Snyder, Michael Bastian, Ovadia & Sons, Robert Geller, Duckie Brown, Patrik Ervell, Timo Weiland and Kent & Curwen. Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein and John Varvatos will be participating, but will not hold runway shows. Meanwhile, Ralph Lauren has made no commitments.
