Dior Homme creative director Kris Van Assche embraced a jovial spirit as he approached the fashion brand’s spring-summer 2017 collection. Talking about the starting point for his latest outing on behalf of the French label, Van Assche, shared, “This season, there is a sense of collective consciousness to the collection–a remix of shared boyhood memories.”

The Belgian designer explains, “I am interested in a synthesis of generations and filtering subcultures through my own lens to tell a new story.” This idea resulted in Van Assche staging a utopian fun fair where “order and disorder run parallel.” Here, New Wave influences came together with a military aesthetic and sporty elements for a cheeky spin on formal menswear.

As young models took to the catwalk, tailored lines were subverted by eyelets, staples, sports lacing and graphic prints. Tapping into the season’s unfinished trend, pinstripes were frayed and houndstooth blurred as Dior’s man embraced an unprecedented attitude.
