An orchestra helped set the mood for Dior Homme’s fall-winter 2015 show. Creative director Kris Van Assche saw an opening to propel his sporty aesthetic forward, disguised as formalwear–the perfect blend of a traditional, dressed up idea of menswear and today’s appeal to relevant street style. Continuing a Lily of the Valley motif, inspired by Christian Dior, Van Assche sent tuxedos down the catwalk with modest buttons against a stark black background. Blending in casual elements one by one, the progression of sharp, tailored formalwear was infiltrated by baseball caps, elongated coats and outerwear. This season’s jackets and coats mixed leather, shearling and denim for formidable trend gear. Among cuffed denim jeans, shearling and denim coats, Van Assche tried his hand at leather joggers, which added an active element to the collection, but the season’s true strength rested in quintessential suits and an offering of Dior Homme’s signature silver bee necklaces.
