Redefining Dolce & Gabbana–Positioning themselves as the epitome of Italian fashion, designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have always had a certain penchant for extravagance. Booking the most prominent models, keeping a roster that included David Gandy, Tony Ward and Noah Mills among others, crafting collections that boasted a flamboyant portrayal of luxury and clinging on to a romanticized version of rural life, Dolce & Gabbana had a successful track record. Taking a step back and redefining their scope, the fashion house retired their diffusion line last year, began a more “real” approach to presenting their fashions, emphasized by the idea of family and focused their charms. Continuing in this vein for their spring/summer 2013 outing, Dolce & Gabbana stripped the runway of the regular candidates and opted for a cast of Sicilian boys and men. Debuting their kid’s collection alongside this season’s menswear, spring’s motifs were presented in an interesting fashion. Increasingly relaxed, the lineup exuded a casualness, perfect for a bold personality. Featuring shorts and trousers, belted high on the waist, oversized shirts and jackets told the season’s tale with vibrant, engaging prints in audacious colors. At the same time, cool grays and stark blacks grounded the range for a wardrobe executed with the attention of the every-man, a step away from glamour but somehow in the scheme of things, quite interesting.
The concept is so good but the execution is just a mess are so are the results!
