Your appearance is your first impression on your clients. When you meet someone, they see what you are wearing before hearing your voice. The expression “first impressions mean everything” reigns true, especially in real estate. Your style and fashion send messages, and you want to ensure you are sending the right message to the public and, most importantly, your potential clients.

What to Wear

Dressing professionally sends the message that you are a businessman. It gives you power and conveys to your clients that you are serious. An important rule to follow is always being ready for a business meeting. In today’s real estate world, everyone wants to sell million-dollar real estate, but you must first dress the part of a million-dollar realtor. As a realtor, you should wear:

  • A Suit or Blazer: If possible, wear a suit or blazer jacket to meet with clients and business partners.
  • Shirt with a Collar: A shirt with a collar is always essential to wear as a realtor, even if you are sitting at your office.
  • Nice Dress Shoes: Shoes say a lot about a man. Invest in a pair of nice dress shoes that accommodate your wardrobe. Ensure the shoes are polished, in good condition, and not scuffed.
  • A Watch: A good timepiece can add to the overall appearance of your professional look. The watch does not have to be expensive, and it should not be too flashy.
  • Professional Bag or Portfolio: Carry your professional documents safely and with style.
  • A Tie: Incorporate a tie into your outfit; it makes you look more professional.

Dressing the part is essential in real estate. Dressing well is necessary for all realtors, especially in high-value real estate. For example, the average house sells for $640,000 in La Mesa, California. The benefits of being one of the best-dressed realtors can help you attract and close high-value deals. Clients looking to buy or sell a million-dollar house are looking for realtors who look like they can make a million dollars, and how you dress adds capital to your business.

What Should You Avoid Wearing?

As a male realtor, there are things you should never wear. If you can wear it to the gym, you should not wear it to do real estate business. Here is a list of things you should never wear while working in real estate.

  • Sneakers: You should never wear sneakers when working as a real estate agent under any circumstance. Invest in comfortable dress shoes.
  • Any Athletic Gear: Just say no to all athletic gear. There is a time and place for everything, and real estate is not for athletic gear.
  • Baseball Caps: A baseball cap automatically turns your outfit into a casual, relaxed look.
  • T-Shirts: Save the t-shirts for downtime; they are unacceptable in real estate.
  • Suits or Clothes That Don’t Fit: Wear form-fitting clothing that fits your frame.
  • Wrinkled or Unclean Clothing: Take time to prepare your outfit. Make sure that it is clean and free of wrinkles.

Your real estate business is your brand. Whether you work for yourself or a property management company, you must take pride in your dress. Ensure that your brand conveys that you are professional, efficient, and serious about your business. Dressing the part is the first step in making sure that you close every deal. High-value real estate requires you to dress the part.
