The latest issue of Hunger magazine features vegan, cruelty-free makeup. For the occasion, photographer Jordan Rossi collaborates with makeup artist Pablo Rodriguez. “It’s always the right time to question where our beauty products come from,” Rodriguez says.
“But now vegan-based beauty materials are definitely easier to find, there is a lot more available.” Continues the makeup artist, “Just go to any makeup brand website and search ‘vegan,’ something will come up. That was not even an option a couple of years ago.”
For Hunger magazine, Jordan Rossi discusses including men as part of a larger beauty story. “Everyone is wearing makeup now. It’s not restricted to gender, so it was important to craft a series of images that reflects our reality with a cast of different genders and skin tones.”
According to Rossi, “It’s important for beauty brands to understand and recognize that. Their audiences are changing but so are the values of the audience. Even five years ago vegan products weren’t a priority for most people but it’s now at the forefront of our cultural consciousness.”
Archie Oliver and Amadou Fall, both models, appear in the Hunger story. While Pablo Rodriguez is in charge of the models’ makeup, George Curran oversees their hair. Archie and Amadou wear simple, approachable makeup looks to encourage people to use vegan beauty products in their everyday routines.
