Fashionisto Q&A: Jamie Clarke
How did you start modeling?
Started modeling when I was 20. I went to Birmingham Clothes Show (UK) with my best friend for shopping, eating and looking around…someone spotted me and asked If I was a model. When I told her I wasn’t, she intended that I should become one and join a Birmingham agency called Alan Sharman Agency.
How long have you been modeling?
Been six years now and now I’m signed with top modeling agencies, so I’m very happy with myself for how far I have come!
What’s the difference between working in London and New York?
London is kinda quiet; NYC is the best place to work no doubt about it. Everyone in the world wants to go to NYC, so it makes me feel very lucky and appreciated to be in this great city.
What is your most memorable modeling experience?
It has to be Kenneth Cole, I mean the brand itself is HUGE, it’s a well-known brand across the world and to shoot for them is a massive honor. And the best place to have worked at has to be Palm Springs, California–that’s was for another big name brand–Kohl’s…two best experiences in my modeling career.
How do you balance soccer and modeling?
I enjoy balancing both, but I must admit that modeling has to be my top priority. It is work. You never know what comes around the corner, so I am always prepared for it. However, I play soccer four times a week and really enjoy the sport. It keeps me very fit and healthy. It seems hard to balance it, but it’s not–it’s easy.
Has being deaf resulted in any unique modeling opportunities?
Yes, Kenneth Cole, the Courageous Class…felt privileged to be part of it and it is something I will never ever forget. I was all over the billboards, subways, double decker buses…CRAZY!
