Prada is an Italian fashion house that Mario Prada founded in 1913. Called Fratelli Prada initially, the label was known as a leather goods shop that imported British goods. Luisa Prada took the company over from her father and passed it on to her daughter Miuccia Prada.

Joining the fashion house in 1970, Miuccia helped shape the label into its contemporary image. Working with her future husband Patrizio Bertelli, Miuccia discontinued Prada’s importing of English goods and focused on creating their own. For example, Miuccia released a collection of backpacks and totes in 1979.

By 1985, Prada was making waves in the fashion industry with Miuccia’s “classic Prada handbag” and the introduction of footwear. The nineties saw the launch of Prada menswear. Prada quickly became known for its clean lines and unique details.
