Lately, I’ve been fascinated by the number of low end brands attempting to revamp their image and make the move towards high street. H&M has a new men’s trend line, Urban Outfitters has ongoing collaborations with Steven Alan, Corpus, and B.Son, just to name a few, and now the Gap has a new collection arriving in stores that shows an attempt at keeping up with the times. If that is not enough, they having an upcoming limited shoe collaboration with Piere Hardy. I think this move is great. As much as I like high street and fashion, the price can be a little much sometimes. Affordable alternatives are definitely appreciated.
On a side note, I love this cardigan from the Gap and might just have to order it!
I remember watching a documentary on the GAP production team, from their design process to creation. It’s such a struggle for them to stay relevant because they have to guess upcoming trends from colour to silhouette and shape. But I’m glad that they’re curving their demographic to something more modern looking. I love anything cable knit, and that cardigan is a great look!
What’s fascinating about Urban Outfitters is that although not everything they offer is upscale, all of these young hipsters know just how to make a statement with the whole DIY aesthetic. What bugs me though, is that mostly everyone comes out there looking exactly like their catalogue. But I guess that’s the point of U.O. You can go through different versions of yourself there, until you find the exact fit.
That tidbit about Gap surprises me since from season to season, their line does not appear to change.
