Last season, Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair was inspired by the tragic figure of Charlie Chaplin’s Tramp. The collection was humorous, yet dark. It took all the appropriate risks and was quite fitting in the context of economic uncertainty. This time around, designers Astrid Olsson and Lee Cotter decided to lighten the mood with optimism in the form of paisley and floral prints. However, what appears nice and dandy is not. It just would not be a Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair collection if it did not have quirks. Suiting is revamped with sensitive prints and unorthodox cuts. Cropped trousers give the appearance of being let out with abruptness, while material in excess creates organized chaos. Anywhere else, this would not be sensible, but in the case of Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair, it is their unpredictability that adds to their overwhelming charm.
