Following an announcement that Frida Giannini would be leaving her post as Gucci creative director after nearly a decade, she was removed early last week, forfeiting her last collection for the Italian fashion house. In her place, Gucci head accessories designer Alessandro Michele, supported by the brand’s design team, worked around the clock up until the last minute, creating a new collection–one that showed a new, fresh direction. Embracing a romantic aesthetic that alludes to the androgynous styles of the 70s, the Gucci man was presented as hero of personal style, showcasing individualism with its unique silhouettes that undoubtedly stand apart from next season’s trends. Relaxed trousers were paired with silk, bow-tied blouses, while coats and shrunken sweaters showcased arms that were purposely too small. Adding lace and paisley prints to the mix, the Gucci man’s wardrobe was complete with the free spirit of a Bohemian.
