After helping to launch Marc by Marc Jacobs and contributing his talents to TSE, Richard Chai launched his self-titled womenswear line in October 2004.  This season sees the New York debut of Chai’s third menswear collection.  Chai approaches menswear with caution opting for a safe wearable collection.  Chai focuses on outerwear, presenting his reinterpretation of the motorcycle jacket and peacoat among others.  Chai’s collection is most notably marked by both fitted and relaxed silhouettes decked in plaids.  Creatively, Chai falls a little short this season, but hopefully the future sees a move from the predominant streetwear-inspired collection towards a sleaker, more chic line similar to his spring 2009 Paris showing.
