Short Mode–Precise mathematical printing together with strong graphics and metallic embellishments resulted in a collection reminiscent of futuristic warriors of Asia for James Long spring/summer 2013. With a big focus on shorts, structure and volume were built through the use of side pleating and paneling in a myriad of fabrics and textures conjuring the idea of the samurai, while structural double-breasted gilets with high fastening and strong shoulders looked like fencing armor. Linear prints inspired by Abacus designs decorated plain white shirt fronts and snaked across shoulders and back of bomber jackets and chunky cotton and bamboo knitwear. Intense metallic beading and mirrors on crew-neck grey sweaters gave a much-needed lift to an otherwise somber palette of textural greys and blacks. / Words by Kenny Ho, Fashionisto London Fashion Editor.
