Cognac SportKRISVANASSCHE revisits his design history, recognizing his love for not only a sports-informed wardrobe, but luxury as well. Avoiding clichés, Van Assche wanted an element of contrast with clothes that are not dandy necessarily but still refined. The rich color of cognac which is similar to luxury leather products stood out and the idea of a collection that was both sporty and refined came to mind. Van Assche elaborated, “The men who have grown up with sportswear, wearing it since they were boys, are often some of the most sophisticated fashion customers. Because they have always had an eye for detail – whether they are looking at a trainer or a handmade shoe. The collection is about that personal interpretation of the rules and the codes of menswear, not adhering to the prescribed, clichéd view of a choice of either ‘sport’ or ‘chic’ – it’s both.” With that philosophy in mind, a bold green, red and orange are peppered throughout a collection that tackles essentials with a hybrid mentality. The cut of a trench is given to a cagoule jacket while shorts are paired with double-breasted jackets. Sportswear finishes are reinterpreted with Van Assche’s expert tailoring. While crocodile prints and polka dots provide a charming design motif, the collection’s final touch are loafers with a trainer influence.
