Lucchese, a storied name synonymous with the Western spirit, has again partnered with designer Nick Fouquet, resulting in their second collaboration, “The Ballad of Big Velvet.” This fall 2024 collection takes us on a romantic journey through the American West, a tribute to the landscapes, freedom, and adventures that shape Western styling.
Lucchese x Nick Fouquet Collection
From the rugged mountains of Montana to the eclectic charm of Highway 89, Fouquet and Lucchese bring the past and present into harmony, reimagining classic Americana for the modern day.
Lucchese is revered as one of the best boot brands, with a reputation built on expert craftsmanship. For Nick Fouquet, known for his boundary-pushing hat designs, it was paramount to dig into the brand’s rich history.
“I referenced some old movies and was listening to a lot of old country albums,” Fouquet said, diving deep into the archives of Lucchese to connect with their heritage on a granular level. “In the end, the essence is adventure, the places we go with our boots and the stories we remember on our journeys.”
The men’s collection includes standout pieces like the Hawk Moon, a classic silhouette inspired by Americana poetry. It captures the grace of a Texas-made boot and the timeless elegance of the American cowboy.
Another highlight, the Barking Irons, pays homage to the 19th-century revolver, with rich shades of brown and crocodile textures lending it an undeniable boldness. The men’s Desert Sands boots reinterpret the allure of an untamed Western landscape, transporting that raw beauty into wearable form.
Embracing the idea of partnership, Lucchese and Fouquet designed the “His and Hers” boots, offering complementary styles for men and women with thoughtful details that tie them together without redundancy.
The men’s Badlands boots, with intricate inlays, blue stitching, and a silver tip, offer a nod to the cowboy styles of yesteryear—but with Fouquet’s distinct flair, bringing in a subtle modernity that makes them feel current.
Of course, no Nick Fouquet collaboration would be complete without a hat, and this collection does not disappoint. Three Western hats—the Palomino Holy Paw, Outer Range, and Highway 89—perfectly exemplify Fouquet’s signature touch.
Each piece channels the spirit of the open road, combining the romance of vintage Western wear with an elevated twist that fits seamlessly into the Lucchese ethos. Fouquet described the collection as “very personal,” noting, “It has so much of my soul in it and that’s reflected in the styles. I really strived for timelessness.”
The “Ballad of Big Velvet” is currently available, with the core collection soon to be followed by the second drop, arriving on November 1st, 2024. Whether online or in person at Lucchese’s South Congress location in Austin, this collaboration is sure to capture the imagination of those who cherish the allure of Western styling and adventure.
