Masatomo’s latest collection is a lighthearted affair. Based around the idea “to enjoy oneself and have a good time”, the spring collection is an escape from our everyday lives to enjoy the leisure of a south sea island. Capturing the dream-like clouds and scenic views of this island, unique ink jet technics were used to craft bold trousers and tops. Black silk flowers are skillfully scattered across jackets and trousers to appear floating. A linen based mix is double weaved for the collection’s noticeable black and white striped garments. Continuing the wistful retreat are effortlessly chic sarouel pants–several cut from silk patterns representing the French flag and others from Africa. Adding to the collection’s merriment and spontaneity are polka dots playfully scattered across suiting. Rounding off the collection are fine leather jackets, with just the right amount of glamor for the Masatomo man, but still light enough for a summer evening. Altogether, the spring collection is a wonderful way to end one book of a continuing series in preparation for a fresh beginning. Inspired by the Japanese tradition of changing one’s name when you come to a crossroad, fall 2010 will see the relaunch of Masatomo as Rynshu.
