“Marcel’s a born chameleon, I remember him being one of the first to arrive at the location, immediately interacting with everyone, a natural people person which comes over in images. He only lived down the street in Brooklyn, I like to shoot people in comfortable environments so it meant he was at ease. Direction wise he doesn’t need much, I like to keep things fluid, Marcel doesn’t like to stand still, so we had a great combination. The industry is sometimes privileged enough to have guys who make it this easy for us!” – Neil Stewart

What is your schedule like nowadays?
Marcel Castenmiller: Random. I could wake up at noon and spend the day reading or going on a walk and then maybe going to a party with friends or I could be woken up at 5am being called from my agency, being told I have to fly to Paris at 10am. It’s a waiting game.

What is your most memorable shoot?
Marcel Castenmiller: This isn’t a fashion shoot but the one shoot I will never forget is the 2007 Roadtrip with Ryan McGinley. Any job I do with him is memorable, so I guess the Theory and Marithe Francois Girbaud shoots are included in those memories.

Has modeling changed your view on fashion? What did you think before?
Marcel Castenmiller: It has sure opened a closed door in my brain. Before I never really gave “Fashion” any attention. Always thought it was for Girls and the Rich.

How do you feel about your experience modeling?
Marcel Castenmiller: Don’t feel very much. Kind of just watching the wheels turn, and once they stop I’ll move on.
