The Fashionisto: In general, there are a lot of models to keep track of. What do you think of those dedicated few who have favorites like yourself and know nearly every show, shoot, etc.?
Lyle Lodwick: There are those who look beyond just “a face” and really understand that being a model entails much more than just looking a certain way. I appreciate those people, such as yourself, bryanboy and Alisa Gould-Simon of The Daily Beast – and they are “a dedicated few,” as you say. They have been instrumental in introducing me to the public and getting my name out. I feel very lucky in this regard.
TF: How often are you home?
LL: During campaign season I am usually away for a couple of weeks. This past fall I was in New York, London, LA and Japan. In 2009, I spent time in New York, Paris, Amsterdam, Milan, Slovenia, Tokyo, Los Angeles, London and Prague.
TF: Do you find there to be a difference between booking American, Asian and European work? Let’s say a Details editorial versus one in Wonderland.
LL: The European ones are usually more artistic, Asian more abstract, and the American ones are usually more commercial-driven, though everything in this business is derived from some sort of monetary exchange. The majority of fashion takes place on an international level, so when something is good, it usually isn’t confined by borders.
TF: Do you have a personal interest in fashion?
LL: Covering your naked body is a social standard that happens to exist. One of the ways people cope with adhering to this standard is by making it fun or colorful or soft or sexy and sleek. Altering your attire can take something that is the norm and make it a form of personal expression. And that’s what I do every day.
