The Past of the FutureMugler creative director Nicola Formichetti and menswear designer Romain Kremer thought galactic for the fall/winter 2013 season. Crafting a uniform that evoked images of space travel and iconic sci-fi series Star Trek, the pair began the collection with a hostile takeover in the form of SWAT-inspired ensembles. Dark, fitted and protected on top with a shield, trousers were relaxed and wide-cut. Immediately apparent was a penchant for unique symbols, juxtaposed with a militaristic confidence felt in precise-cut pockets and sharp-tailored silhouettes. Mixing in an element of the foreign when compared to most menswear, neoprene, shiny finishes and fluorescent colors were among the finishing touches to a nostalgic take on the future.
