N° 21 creative director Alessandro Dell’Acqua looks to the political climate of the world for inspiration this season. Championing ideas of freedom, protest, association, and inclusion, the designer is mindful of the power of clothes.

Dell’Acqua recalls looking at pictures of demonstrations from the 1970s. He shares, “More than any style of dress or rallying cry on banners, what struck me were the intense feelings captured in the pictures, that spirit of freedom which marked both the thinking and the very existence of men and women back then–a spirit of freedom they also expressed through the clothes they had on.”

Dell’Acqua adds, “That’s why in this collection, more than rehash fashion tenets, I gave sway to a free association of the thoughts, words, actions and lifestyles inherent to those mood and feelings.” N° 21’s fall-winter 2017 collection comes together with a parade of statements.

Dell’Acqua’s skillful hand is shown with impactful details. While camouflage brings a military edge to outerwear, graphic bars decorate covetable items like a knit sweater or puffer jacket. Army nylon detailing also adds to the season’s conversational narrative.
