The cold weather may still be upon us, but the fashion-forward out there already have their eyes cast over summer’s head and into the midst of autumn/winter 2013’s collections. And what do they see? Original Penguin’s recent sneak peek at the Bread and Butter urban and streetwear trade show revealed an exciting mash-up of traditional styles and innovative colour pairings.
The men’s clothing specialist treated spectators to a simple and functional collection awash with understated colours that will ensure the pieces are truly wearable, as well as being on-trend. Their classic, masculine shapes were given the runway style treatment courtesy of a preppy, smart edge.
Original Penguin’s stall at the Berlin-based event was awash with multiple shades of blue – laying the foundations for a colourful pick and mix of their bolder pieces. In one display, a navy jumper was brought to life by an orange and red-toned scarf – the perfect pairing of fire and water – while golden-toned chinos hung on another wall, ready to team up with nearby royal blue shirts.
Confident matches were made in the form of lively coloured cardies and brightly patterned shirts, while relaxed moss greens and greys represented the dual nature of the autumn/winter collection.
Satchel bags and brogue-inspired shoes referenced the brands preppy, bookish influence.
After this tempting glimpse into the future, the date of arrival for the collection – July – may seem a long time to wait. Of course, for those in no rush to let summer’s trends pass them by, Original Penguin’s collection of classic polo shirts, eye-catching checked shirts and bang-on-trend tailored shorts are ready to soak up the sun’s rays.
