Initially designed in 1957 for tram drivers in Turin, the 649 model was created to provide large lenses that would protect their eyes from dust and debris. However, it wasn’t long before the design transcended its functional roots, cementing its legendary status when actor Marcello Mastroianni wore it in the 1961 film Divorce Italian Style.
