Phillip Lim’s menswear shows have a propensity to act in the same capacity as a movie trailer. Focusing primarily on his womenswear line, only a small selection from the menswear line makes it to New York Fashion Week. Over the course of the last couple seasons, this small showing has been either a hit or miss, often lacking in variety. This time around, Lim excels in showcasing the direction of the latest collection. Lim always designs with a boyish charm, most frequently seen in his cropped jackets, but this collection is a bit different. This season, the Phillip Lim boy is taking a more relaxed approach to fashion as he plays the role of the bad boy. The band jacket gets reinterpreted as a vest and shirt, while shoes and shirts adorned with studs fall perfectly in line with leather driver gloves. Watch out Prada, it looks like the Lim boy just might be your rival this fall.
