Known for his role as Tom Haverford in Parks and Recreation, actor Aziz Ansari connects with Mr Porter’s The Journal for a new style spread and interview. Linking up in New York, Ansari is photographed by Blair Getz Mezibov with styling by Mr Porter deputy style director Olie Arnold. Ansari wears tuxedos and sharp overcoats from the likes of Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen and Hardy Amies.
Discussing his new Netflix show, Master of None, Ansari talks about the decision to cast his parents. He explains, “I auditioned all these actors [to play my parents] and none of them felt real.” Ansari continues, “It was important to get these characters right because immigrant parents can be portrayed awkwardly on TV and film. It’s like the Indian dad will come into the room and go like, ‘Oh, I slipped on curry!’ and that’s not real, that doesn’t happen. When I decided to cast my parents it was with that in mind and they played it very real.” Read more and shop the story on MrPorter.com.
