The accompanying interview gives readers a glimpse into Doohan’s journey to acting, his experience with Wednesday, and his plans for the future. Doohan’s exceptional talent and rapid ascent in the industry indicate he’s well on his way to becoming a major star.
Hunter Doohan on Wednesday’s Success
Hunter Doohan opened up about his experience with Wednesday’s sudden and fantastic success. He was surprised by the show’s popularity, saying, “Yeah, totally. It’s been crazy. I mean, I just never expected it to blow up the way that it did.” Doohan, who has been acting for a decade, describes his journey as a lot of “nobody caring at all” until this breakthrough role. He emphasizes that he loves the ride and enjoys the experience.
Doohan Talks Tyler’s Dark Side
Doohan knew about his character’s darker side after being cast. He shared, “I had a suspicion during the final audition process. They didn’t want to spoil it, obviously, because I guess they didn’t know who they were going with yet.”
During the audition, Doohan tried to showcase the darker side of Tyler, but the audition scene lacked the drastic turn that the character takes in the show. Despite this, Doohan appreciates the show’s producers for believing in him.
He added, “I got a call from the showrunners Al [Gough] and Miles [Millar] after getting cast. And we talked for an hour going through what the whole season was going to look like.”
On Acting
Doohan discovered his passion for acting during his high school years. He explained, “It was honestly getting involved in musical theatre in high school. I grew up in Arkansas, and there weren’t a ton of opportunities. I was really lucky that my high school had a theatre program.”
Soon after, he became involved in the Young Actors Guild program run by Missy Gibson, where he fell in love with acting. Doohan expressed, “It was kind of the first time I felt like I found what I really wanted to do.”
Despite being academically successful, Doohan needed more direction before finding his passion for acting. He said, “I was good in school but didn’t have any clear direction on what I was going to do after. Once I found theatre, I just ran with it.”
Future Dreams
Hunter Doohan has expressed his interest in taking on more genre roles in the future. “As an actor, I found it really fun to be talking about monsters, seeing kids with powers, and trying to keep it real,” he said.
“I’m definitely interested in doing more genre stuff like that, anything in the superhero world, or Star Wars. I think that would be great.” Having made his name in comedy and horror, it’s clear that Doohan is open to exploring new genres and challenging himself as an actor. It will be exciting to see what projects he will take on.
