Gyllenhaal also notes that no role is too small for him. He discusses one of his new projects, Okja. In a translated quote, Gyllenhaal explains, “The importance of the role was never a question for me. What matters is that the director believes in you. As an actor, we never have control of the film, since it is that of the director.”
The 36-year-old actor continues, “So, what interests me above all, is why a director wants to work with me. I am a ‘choice’ a little bit (laughs). For a long time, Hollywood did not quite understand where I was going, and I’m not sure it’s over.”
