In an exclusive interview with Numéro Netherlands, Rivas revisits his role as adult star Nacho Vidal. “Nacho is a really complex human being. Very extravagant and impulsive, fearless, unpredictable. If I had to find a global analogy, I would say he is our Mike Tyson somehow,” Rivas reflects.

The depth of Vidal’s character was a significant draw for Rivas, who was captivated by Vidal’s tumultuous life story. “I read his biography, which he released at the age of twenty-six, and I was baffled. At that age, I barely had substance enough to write a letter back home, and this dude had already gone through so much stuff. You very rarely get the chance to play someone like that.”

Rivas also shares his insights on performing for live audiences versus the screen. “Well, as I said, theatre is the art of repetition. On the stage, you can also assume bigger risks and really do some composition work because you’ve got eight weeks of rehearsals to experiment, whilst on screen sometimes you barely have any rehearsing time,” the 39-year-old actor explains.

Tackling theatre, Rivas elaborates, “Obviously when you are working for the stage you have to turn it up a notch in terms of energy and volume because otherwise, you won’t be able to reach the last row, and that demands a specific technique. But besides that, it’s pretty much the same. You either act with honesty or without it, regardless of the platform.”
